PWC Safety and Maintenance Requirements Checklist

Fire Extinguisher:
a U.S. Coast Guard approved fire extinguisher in proper working order (Type B-1 minimum),
must be aboard and stowed properly.

Boat Number:
an approved registration number and validation sticker must be properly displayed.

Steering Control:
working properly.

Fuel, Oil Supplies:
at their proper levels.

Backfire Flame Arrestor:
required equipment on PWC and on all boats with enclosed engines. Maintain and make
sure it is in operating order to avoid engine fires.

Engine Compartment:
ventilated (left open for a few minutes prior to engine start-up to clear fumes).
Use your nose – sniff for fumes before trying to start your engine.

No Leaks:
in fuel lines, fuel tank, oil tank, exhaust system.

Hose Connections:
tight.
-
Battery:
properly charged, fluid at the proper levels, and secured properly.
-
Engine Hood Cover:
latched securely.
-
Seat Latch:
secured.
-
Pump/Intake Area:
free of debris.
-
Hull:
inspected for cracks and other damage.
-
Throttle:
in proper working order (test start).
-
Lanyard Cut-off (Start-Stop Switch):
in proper working order (test start) and attached the operator or clothing as
required by law.

Choke and Fuel Reserve Controls:
in proper working order.
-
Lines:
enough for mooring and towing.
