Required Operator Safety Gear

• Life Jacket (PFD):
  If you are operating a PWC, a U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device, Type III flotation aid must be worn by the operator and by each passenger.

• Lanyard:
  If a PWC is equipped with an engine shut-off lanyard it should be attached to the operator and in working condition.

• Whistle:
  Required as sound device for signaling.

Recommended Operator Safety Gear

• Skin Protection:
  A lotion with a SPF factor of 15 or greater.

• Eye Protection:
  Goggles or safety glasses can help protect you from glare and spray.

• Flashlight:
  Even if night operation is illegal in your state, you should have a watertight flashlight aboard in case you are on the water after dark.

• Foot Protection:
  Diver booties, water socks, deck shoes, or tennis shoes will help you to maintain your footing and avoid injury.

• Gloves:
  To help maintain your grip on wet controls and protect your hands.

• Wet Suit:
  A good investment to help protect you from hypothermia (abnormally low body temperature, which can be fatal). Wet suit bottoms or neoprene shorts are recommended at all times to protect against injuries that may occur during a fall into the water. Wearing a wet suit does not replace the requirement for a life jacket.

• First Aid Kit:
  A small kit such as those prepared for small boats will come in handy for treating small cuts, scrapes, or burns.
