Security

Make it a point to never leave your PWC unattended with the ignition activated by having the lanyard in place. If you leave it for any time, try to lock it with a chain to some immovable object. If you leave it on a trailer, add a trailer hitch lock, chain the PWC to the trailer, and remove one of the trailer wheels. Write down the hull, registration and engine numbers and keep them in your car's glove compartment for quick access. You will need to provide these numbers to authorities if your PWC is stolen.

PWC Guidelines

Boat Theft Prevention
Engrave valuable boating gear with the owner's driver's license number, photograph or videotape the inside and outside of the boat showing all installed equipment and additional gear carried. Keep a written inventory of the boat, trailer and equipment. List all electronics, outboard engines, and other gear by brand name, model and serial number; remove property from the boat after each boating trip, store the boat and trailer out of sight in a garage, storage shed or backyard. Secure the boat and trailer to a pole or tree with a strong lock and chain.

PWC Theft Prevention
PWC theft has been and continues to be a major problem. In many cases theft occurs when the opportunity presents itself. As a PWC owner/operator you should do everything possible to remove the opportunity. Never park on the beach with the lanyard plugged in. The lanyard is the key. Never plug it in until you are seated and ready to get underway. The lanyard should be removed when the PWC is not is use. Engrave valuable boating gear with the owner's driver's license number; keep a written inventory of the PWC, trailer and equipment. List all gear by brand name, model and serial number, remove property from the PWC after each trip, store the PWC and trailer out of sight in a garage, storage shed or backyard, and secure the PWC and trailer to a pole or tree with a strong lock and chain. Keep the written inventory in an easy to access place so you can provide it to authorities if your PWC is stolen. Many PWC operators use their car's glove compartment for storing such information.
