TEXAS HAS MANDATORY BOATER EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS A successfully completed boater education course certified by Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) and photo I.D. is required for any person born after September 1, 1984 to operate on the public water of Texas (1) a vessel powered by motor of 10 horsepower or more; or (2) a windblown vessel over 14 feet in length. To successfully complete the PWCSafetyschool.com course for Texas a boater needs to get 90% or more correct on the exam (54 out of 60). Once you have successfully completed the course fill out the downloadable certificate and mail a copy to Texas Parks and Wildlife (the address is below and on the downloadable certificate) along with a $10.00 processing fee. Call 1-800-792-1112 ex. 4999 for boater education information. A person is exempt from the mandatory boater education requirement if the person (1) is at least 18 years of age; (2) is accompanied by a person at least 18 years of age.
